POSITION TITLE:  Resource Development Director

REPORTS TO:         Executive Director

SUMMARY: 

            Responsible for the overall management of all fund-generating programs, including the annual campaign, leadership giving, endowment building, and fundraising events; supports and implements corporate marketing and public relations strategies.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

FUND DEVELOPMENT:

  • Coordinate and direct the annual pacesetter and fall campaigns.

This includes but is not limited to:

    • Recruiting, training, and supporting volunteer leadership;

    • Developing campaign materials and promotional strategies;

    • Broadening the donor base;

    • Compiling tracking reports and analyzing results.

    • Develop annual campaign timetable and other timetables for special campaigns.

    • Oversee the State Employees and Combined Federal Campaigns.

    • Maintain and update donor database;

  • Create and implement annual resource development work plan;

  • Achieve specified resource development targets and timetables.

  • Identify, cultivate, and solicit individuals, corporations, and foundations for major gifts;

  • Develop and implement leadership giving initiatives

  • Manage endowment and planned giving activities, including coordinated contacts with contributors and potential contributors and preparation of all materials.

  • Research and develop profiles of prospective donors;

  • Expand the Emerging Leaders society and coordinate their activities;

  • Be the staff liaison to the Development Committee;

  • Maintain departmental expenditures within board approved budget limits;

  • Utilize technology fully to maximize efficiency and competitive advantage.

  • Other delegated responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director.

  • Create motivational meetings and special events, including all arrangements and recruitment of support as needed (volunteers, staff, agency staff).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred but not required

  • Successful experience in direct solicitation and fundraising (3-5 years preferred);

  • Knowledge of the principles of philanthropy and donor relations;

  • Excellent oral and written communications and interpersonal skills;

  • Professional presentation expertise;

  • Proven organizational, managerial, and time management skills;

  • Experience in utilizing computer resources and business software applications

  • General knowledge of marketing and fund development techniques.  General knowledge of software:  database; spreadsheet, word processing, desktop publishing.  Ability to work with diverse constituency.  Bondable.

  • Valid Driver’s license and use of own vehicle (with valid insurance coverage) for agency business.

  • Based on work plan of the agency, position often requires work beyond traditional hours of employment.  Staff member must be able to read and interpret documents, perform highly detailed work and mathematical functions; withstand stress and handle multiple, concurrent tasks and constant interruptions.

POSITION TITLE:  Grant Writer - Contract

REPORTS TO:         Executive Director

SUMMARY: 

The Grant Writer will identify, define and develop funding sources to support existing and planned program activities as well as lead the development, writing, and submission of grant proposals to federal, state, and private funding agencies.

Primary responsibilities include preparation of proposals and grant applications, and performance of responsible professional and administrative work in researching, identifying, developing and responding to public and private grant opportunities in areas that support United Way of Etowah County programs and its mission.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Grant Writer:

  • Researches and identifies new government, corporate, foundation and private funding prospects to match United Way of Etowah County priorities;

  • Generates high-quality proposals, narratives, applications and supporting documents in response to solicitations consistent with all policies and procedures of UWOEC, and the requirements and guidelines of the funding agencies;

  • Generates revenues for GC programs through timely submission of well-researched, well written and well-documented grant proposals;

  • Maintains primary responsibility for grant schedules and tracking grants;

  • Coordinates and follows-up on the progress of submitted proposals;

  • Coordinates with the Finance Manager to create expenditure and income budgets to accompany proposals;

  • Develops and maintains a master file on pending grants and contracts;

  • Remains up-to-date on current issues relative to grant proposals;

  • Meets regularly with faculty/staff to discuss current and new funding needs;

  • Inform supervisor on the progress of all grants and issues that may arise with each grant;

  • Maintains confidentiality of information exposed to in the course of business regarding students, supervisors or other employees;

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Successful experience in grant writing (3-5 years preferred);

  • Previous grant budget development and management;

  • A proven record of securing major grants with certifiable references;

  • Knowledge of grant application process, scoring criteria and funding cycles;

  • Previous federal grant application, submission, approval and management.
